ABOUT ME

My yoga practice began when I was pregnant with my daughter, who is now in her 20s. I turned to yoga to alleviate lower back pain that had set in after a car accident a few years previous to my pregnancy and was aggravated by my pregnancy. Little did I know my practice would become a passion. Yoga became the perfect outlet for me to learn to love myself as it guided me toward physical comfort and eventually using my breath as a  bridge to connect mind, body and spirit.

I acquired my 200 hour certification to teach yoga in 2008 with PEI based yoga teacher, Ruth Richman. Initially, my intention was simply to deepen my own practice but eventually, as my practice enhanced I felt compelled to share my love for yoga with others. I began by sharing yoga with kids in 2015 and it has been a wonderful experience. Yoga inherently offers the individual tools for nervous system regulation. Children acquire these skills through a playful yoga approach where I offer classes full of games, mindfulness activities, poses through stories and challenges and a variety of independent, partner and group practices.

I taught Pre-K - Grade 5 classes yoga once a week during their scheduled Phys. Ed. time and also offered after school yoga to children for many years. Eventually, I started taking on little yoga jobs here and there which involved teaching adults and I loved it just as much as working with children. Yoga provides a carved out space to focus on the breath while strengthening and finding flexibility in both the mind and body, it allows us to really tune into what we intuitively know the mind and body need.

Since my 200 hour certification, I have been committed to continuous learning throughout my yoga journey with the intention of supporting others toward personal well being and empowerment.  I have taken certifications based on yoga and mindfulness and working with children at Breathing Space Yoga in Halifax and I also took a certification through Saint John’s Amana Institute. I am currently training to be a yoga therapist through Breathing Deeply Yoga Therapy Training School and am also in the middle of an Anatomy Course with Jason Crandall. My home practice includes a subscription to one of my yoga mentors, Kathryn Budig’s, online platform.

I have recently opened up Lunar Lark Yoga which is a cosy home studio on the Kingston Peninsula and am also sharing yoga at other locations. Recent teaching jobs have included classes for guests at Ridgeback Lodge, classes for participants of Strive retreats, Yin and Pin and Yoga and Cupping classes with healthcare professionals at the whole health clinic Roots to Branches and weekly classes at my home based studio. I would be happy to see you on your mat at an off-site class or in my home studio one day soon!
